Frequently Asked Questions
My pet is lost. What can I do?
Losing a pet can be scary, take a breath and start looking around. Search under porches, ask neighbors to check garages, outbuildings etc. Lost pets tend to find a place to hide and come out at dusk and dawn to look for food and water. If you can walk the area with a friendly confident dog, your missing dog may be more likely to come out.
Spread the word, put up flyers in the area. Ask permission and then post them at convenience stores, churches, fast food stores, anywhere large numbers of people may see them.
Technology is your friend. Post on Facebook pages, Neighbors app, and the NextDoor app. Be aware of scams. Reimbursing a finder for legitimate medical expenses is okay, requiring a fee before you can even see your pet is a red flag.
The best way to get your pet back is to take steps before they go missing. ID tags and microchips are a low cost way to help finders get them back to you. Two up-to-date photos, one of the pet and one of the two of you together will be very helpful. If they are on your phone and quickly and easily shareable, even better.

What can I do about a feral cat?
Our first recommendation is NOT to feed a stray. It can seem hard-hearted but if you look at the big picture that is the most humane option. If you don’t feed her, she will move on.
Here at the shelter, we can loan you a trap with a $60 fully refundable deposit. For the safety of the cat, the staff of the clinic and yourself, all ferals must be transported in a trap. They can then be safely sedated, altered, vaccinated and returned to you.
We offer rabies vaccines for dogs and cats during our open hours for $5 for Davie County residents, $10 for out of county residents (cash only, exact change please).

Do you have a pet food pantry?
There is a Pet food Pantry located at the shelter. Davie County residents may access the pantry up to 4 times a year, with at least 30 days between visits. Ring the front doorbell and have your state issued ID ready.
