On 03/30/2010 victim, William N. Cozart of 276 Turrentine Church Rd. Mocksville reported his white F-250 Ford Truck had been stolen from his residence. Officer's were advised of a malfunction that caused the vehicle to overheat and that the keys had been left in the vehicle for a mechanic's attention. The vehicle was later found near the intersection of Hardison St and Duke St in Mocksville that morning. It appeared the vehicle had over-heated and the suspect had abandoned it there. Lt. Whitesides began his investigation into this case on 04/05/2010. Lt. Whitesides was aware that this was not the only vehicle stolen from the Turrentine Church Rd area and there had been a vehicle also stolen from the Mocksville area that had been located in Spencer N.C. Lt. Whitesides had received a phone call from a witness in Spencer who informed him that Barron Lee Thompson had traded a stolen Mazda 626 for drugs in Spencer and the caller gave Lt. Whitesides the location of where the car was located. Lt. Whitesides contacted the Mocksville P.D. and passed on this information. Lt. Whitesides was able to locate the witness in the case that had seen the suspect. The witness advised Lt. Whitesides that he had seed a bald black male park the truck at his neighbor's residence, remove a tool box from the front seat, and walk away. Working with the Mocksville P.D. information was learned during the investigation that led to suspect Barron Lee Thompson to be charged with motor vehicle larceny and charged with at least one other motor vehicle larceny by the Mocksville P.D. Thompson is also suspected in another motor vehicle larceny that is under unvestigation by Det/Sgt. S. Kimel and charges are pending for this case. Thompson was placed under a $7,500.00 bond and his first court date is set for 04/22/2010.
