PRESS RELEASE

On August 6, 2010 Davie County Sheriff's Office Lt. W.L. Whitesides, Det./Sgt. B.T. Emory, and Cpl. J. Stephens responded to 400 Hobson Dr Mocksville, NC to a reported unresponsive person. When units arrived they located a Christopher Ray Smith deceased in the living room floor of the residence. Smith and his family had slept at the neighbor's address due to malfunctioning air conditioning at their residence. Smith's wife, Stephanie Smith, stated the deceased consumed approximately 18 beers before going to bed around 3:00am. Mrs. Smith slept on a couch while Mr. Smith slept on a mattress on the floor beside the couch. When Mrs. Smith awoke she attempted to wake Christopher, but she found him not breathing. Lt. Whitesides examined the area and the body and could not find evidence of foul play involved in this incident. It was also reported that Smith may have taken an unknown drug that night for a medical condition.

At this time it appears this was an accidental overdose or natural death. An autopsy will be done and followed by an official ruling on the case.
