Civil Process and the Sheriff
One of the most important duties of the Sheriff has always been to execute and serve the various processes issued by and for the Courts of North Carolina. He shares this responsibility in the area of criminal processes with other law enforcement agencies in the county and the state. However, for civil cases and processes, the responsibility is held by the Sheriff alone.

The Civil Division provides for the receipt of and the execution of various civil processes issued to the Sheriff s Office such as Magistrate Summons, Civil Summons, Domestic Violence Orders, Claim & Deliveries, Writs for Possession (Real & Personal Property), Juvenile Summons, Tax Warrants (Local & Department of Revenue), Attachments, Writs of Executions Foreclosure and various other papers. He is bound to execute them or is liable for neglect of duty. In addition of serving civil process, this department also is responsible for the issuance or denial of purchase permit applications, concealed handgun permits. Fingerprinting services for school systems, county offices,. health care professionals, securities, gaming commission, etc. Records and entries of the DCI network, records division for the administrative office. Also maintain security for the courthouse and the court system, opening and closing of courts, transports, reserve officers for this division, crime prevention, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), community service work program, also serve as field trainers for Davie Domestic Violence and as members of the Governors Highway Safety Task Force with 5 other counties. In addition to the duties outlined above we assist as a regular Deputy with the activities listed for them as well.
